The Certified Insurance Fraud Analyst (CIFA) certification is an accrediting process that covers all topics that deem an analyst to be well rounded and versed in all aspects of fraud analysis. The program has a high standard for admission and testing which includes adherence to IASIU's code of ethics.

The CIFA exam has undergone a comprehensive program overhaul in 2023. If you have been waiting to become CIFA certified, please complete the application and get access to new study and reference materials.

Exam Process

1. Written Test

  • Timed multiple-choice test
  • Open book format
  • Must be completed before practical exercises

2. Practical Exercises

After passing the written test, you'll complete three practical tests with mentor guidance:

  1. Excel Skills: Applying Excel in fraud analysis
  2. Fraud Analysis: Specific areas of insurance fraud
  3. Advanced Analysis: Additional fraud analysis topics

All practical exercises are open book with time limits

The CIFA exam is $200 and only available to IASIU members. Membership dues must be paid in full prior to taking the exam. Applications are accepted year-round.

Qualification Requirements

Membership Requirements

  • Current member of IASIU in good standing

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in insurance fraud analytics
  • AND one of the following combinations:

OR Bachelor's Degree

OR 10 Years' experience in the Insurance Industry

OR 5 Years in Insurance + 5 Years in Military Analytics

OR 5 Years in Insurance + 5 Years in Law Enforcement Analytics

Training Requirements

Complete one of the following analytics courses (minimum 30 hours):

  • NICB Data Analytics Courses
  • Coursera (Data Analysis)
  • edX (Data Analysis)
  • LinkedIn Learning (Data Analysis)
  • IASIU Sponsored Data Analysis Courses

Other courses may be approved by committee
