Certification Requirements
1. Experience Requirements
Be in an insurance claims position, or similar role involving claims investigation, for a minimum of 3 years.
2. Endorsement Recommendation
Submit an endorsement from SIU Leadership confirming consistent identification of questionable claims.
3. NICTA Course Completion
5 Required Core Courses:
- Customer Service and Fraud Investigation
- Insurance Fraud Basics
- Introduction to Insurance Fraud Investigation
- Listening for Deception in Claims Interviews
- IASIU Ethics
5 Elective Courses:
Chosen from the IASIU catalog. Must achieve passing scores with certificates dated within the last 365 days.
4. IASIU Training
Minimum 10 hours of IASIU-led fraud awareness training within the past year through webinars, conferences, or chapter seminars.
5. SIU Observation
Field Option:
5+ hours accompanying SIU Investigator on field work
Desk/Virtual Option:
5+ hours observing SIU desk investigations

Recertification
Maintain your CIFR certification by completing 15 CEUs and submitting a renewal application every 3 years ($50 fee).

- Updated SIU leadership recommendation
CEU Requirements:
- 15 CEUs over 3 years (minimum 1 ethics credit)
- Must relate to insurance fraud investigation
- Maintain certificates of completion
