The Certified Insurance Fraud Representative (CIFR) program is a newly developed certification program for claim representatives who possess the specialized skills required for early fraud detection, preliminary claims investigations, and quality referrals to SIU.

The program has high standards for admission and testing, including adherence to IASIU's code of ethics and demonstration of competency through continuing professional education.

Certification Requirements

1. Experience Requirements

Be in an insurance claims position, or similar role involving claims investigation, for a minimum of 3 years.

2. Endorsement Recommendation

Submit an endorsement from SIU Leadership confirming consistent identification of questionable claims.

3. NICTA Course Completion

5 Required Core Courses:

  • Customer Service and Fraud Investigation
  • Insurance Fraud Basics
  • Introduction to Insurance Fraud Investigation
  • Listening for Deception in Claims Interviews
  • IASIU Ethics

5 Elective Courses:

Chosen from the IASIU catalog. Must achieve passing scores with certificates dated within the last 365 days.

4. IASIU Training

Minimum 10 hours of IASIU-led fraud awareness training within the past year through webinars, conferences, or chapter seminars.

5. SIU Observation

Field Option:

5+ hours accompanying SIU Investigator on field work

OR

Desk/Virtual Option:

5+ hours observing SIU desk investigations

Application Process

    Submit Application

    Complete the online application or download PDF form with $70 fee

  2. 2

    Provide Documentation

    Submit NICTA course completion records and SIU leadership recommendation

  3. 3

    Demonstrate Requirements

    Show proof of training attendance and SIU observation hours

IASIU membership is required for one year prior to application to access the necessary educational resources for the CIFR designation.

Recertification

Maintain your CIFR certification by completing 15 CEUs and submitting a renewal application every 3 years ($50 fee).

Recertification Requirements:

  • Maintain IASIU's Code of Ethics
  • Updated SIU leadership recommendation

CEU Requirements:

  • 15 CEUs over 3 years (minimum 1 ethics credit)
  • Must relate to insurance fraud investigation
  • Maintain certificates of completion
