The Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator (CIFI) program is an accrediting process for individuals with the specialized skills required to detect, investigate and deter insurance fraud. The program has a high standard for admission and testing, which includes adherence to IASIU's code of ethics, and a demonstrated competency through mandatory continuing professional education.
A minimum of 100 points is needed for the CIFI Examination Application, with a minimum of 30 points of SIU investigative experience required.
Certification Requirements
Education
- 20 pts Bachelor's Degree from accredited college
- 10 pts Master's Degree from accredited college
- 10 pts Ph.D., J.D. from accredited college
SIU Investigative Experience
Minimum 30 points required
10 points per full year
- Insurance company SIU investigator
- Self-insured corporation fraud investigator
- NICB or ICPB special agent
- State fraud bureau investigator
Other Experience
Law Enforcement
5 points per year as local, state or federal law enforcement officer/fire investigator
Insurance Investigation
5 points per year in claims investigation
Defense Counsel
5 points per year defending insurers in SIU cases
Speaking & Writing
- 15 pts Published book on insurance fraud
- 3 pts Published article in professional journal
- 3 pts Lecture at industry event
Certifications
5 points per professional certification related to fraud detection/prevention
Examples: CFE, IAAI, or other relevant certifications
